DENTAL EMERGENCIES

TOOTHACHES

Brush the teeth with warm water.

Use dental floss to remove any food that might be trapped between the teeth. Give children’s Motrin or Tylenol. Call your dentist.

KNOCKED-OUT PERMANENT TOOTH

Time is critical! Do not wash the tooth unless it is dirty. If it is dirty, rinse it gently in cool running water. Try not to touch the root. Do not scrub it or remove any attached tissue fragments. Gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket. If this is not possible, place the tooth in a cup of milk, or when milk is not available in a cup of cool water. Call your dentist immediately. Go to your dentist (within 30 minutes if possible). Don’t forget to bring the tooth! DO NOT INSERT A BABY TOOTH BACK IN THE MOUTH.

BROKEN TOOTH

Gently clean the injured area as needed with warm water. Place cold compresses on the face, in the area of the injured tooth, to decrease swelling. Give children’s Motrin or Tylenol. Call your dentist.

BITTEN TONGUE OR LIP

Apply direct pressure to the bleeding area with a clean cloth. If swelling is present, apply cold compresses
